LENZING™ fibres help maintain environmental balance by being integrated into nature´s cycle. Created by the natural process of photosynthesis, LENZING™ fibres originate from the renewable raw material wood. The cellulosic fibres are manufactured using an environmentally responsible production process. Composed of natural material, LENZING™ fibres are biodegradable and compostable and can fully revert to nature.
About LENZING™
At Lenzing, we strive to safeguard resources for future generations. All our fibre production sites operate according to certified Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety systems. LENZING™ fibres – both Lyocell and Modal – are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources, a renewable resource. We strive to maximize solvent recovery and reuse, recycle process water, recover unused components as co-products, and optimize the use of renewable energy. In keeping with our commitment to environmental responsibility, we are constantly seeking innovations to make our production ever more sustainable and to reduce its environmental impact further.
LENZING™ Lyocell fibres are derived from sustainably grown wood sources, while LENZING™ Modal fibres are mainly manufactured from beech wood — a natural and renewable raw material — sourced from sustainably grown forests in Austria and neighbouring countries. A big share of the wood used at the Lenzing site in Austria comes from Austria itself. Wood for both fibres is harvested from certified and controlled sources following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. Moreover, wood and pulp used by the Lenzing Group come from sustainable forestry — semi-natural forests and sustainably managed plantations. LENZING™ Lyocell and Modal fibres have earned the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Bio Preferred® designation.

Derived from nature, all LENZING™ standard Lyocell and Modal fibre types have been certified as compostable and biodegradable under industrial, home, soil, and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature.

Fully integrated pulp and fibre production at the Lenzing site in Austria makes it possible to produce fibres eco-responsibly. At Lenzing, we strive to safeguard resources for future generations by using renewable energy from the pulp mill and by recovering the remaining components as co-products. Numerous Lenzing innovations have been integrated into the production of LENZING™ Modal fibres in Austria to make the process environmentally sound.
